How is it March already?! Man, Andy Rooney had it right — life is like a roll of toilet paper; the closer you get to the end, the faster it goes. And I’m not that far along, aaa! O_O;

One of the benefits of working in an art store is you get to examine the vast array of supplies available to modern artists. 8D (This is also a downside. Do you know how hard it is not to buy ALL THE THINGS?! Especially when you get a discount?!?! It’s like working in a candy store!) I’ve always wanted to learn to ink with a brush, but brush-and-ink isn’t very portable and brush-tip pens just aren’t the same. (And those reservoir brushes don’t like India ink very much. Trust me.)

So the other day I broke down and bought a Pentel Pocket Brush, which is basically a synthetic brush that takes ink cartridges. ERMEGERD ERM IN LURVE! I doodled this sketch of Lexi over a couple of lunchbreaks and I’m pretty happy with it. I even like my mistakes! You can get a really wide range of textures depending on your stroke speed and the ink is deliciously black. It does smear slightly if you scrub hard over it with alcohol markers — Copic, Prismacolor — but it doesn’t bleed if you marker next to it, so that’s workable. I haven’t tried using watercolors with it, but I will. :) Mmm, traditional media, I’ve missed you…

Anyway, next week we’ll see how Donovan reacts to Lexi’s self-conscious rant!
